How I Repair Locks
When a mortice lock is not working, it may have a broken part and I always carry these spares on the van. Sometimes the parts may need to be ordered in, especially if the lock is no longer manufactured, its more economical to replace the lock for a newer one when this happens, this also gives you the advantage of upgrading your lock to a newer standard.
A lock repair can be as simple as lubrication to free a sticky mechanism. Please do not do this yourself as locks require specialist oils to work properly and applying normal oils and greases may make the situation worse as they attract debris and can cause the delicate mechanism to become stiff.
